What is it with Racism in the USA?
« Man swims with 50 foot long Humpback Whale | Main | Racism, Free Speech and Censorship »
Racism. It's depressing really. Whites denigrating blacks, blacks denigrating whites. Whites calling black folk niggers, blacks calling white folk crackers. Don't even get me started on racially motivated crime. One would think that after abolishing slavery over 140 years ago, we in the US would have gotten past this heinous defect in our society. Instead it's gotten worse.
Who is to blame? I believe the fault lies on both sides of the pigmented divide, but I think in all honesty, it ultimately falls to the white community for allowing institutionalized and systemic racism to linger against the black community. I'm not gonna get into a long diatribe about this, but i do want to make a statement that what I see and hear out on the net is unsettling with regard to issues of race relations.
Since Obama was elected, the tone, the temper, the pure number of times I've seen displays of racist rants, remarks and innuendo has increased perhaps 10 fold. Sadly, I don't see it getting any better because of the way Obama has been pushing change that is unfortunately marxist/socialist in its execution. While I did not vote for Obama, there was a part of me that hoped, he was for real. Hoped that he truly would change government for the better, less of it even. That he would begin to heal that rift, of racism, that has so long divided this country.
I think this is why we see the anger at the townhalls, because people thought he was going to fundamentally change our government from what it has become to what it was and should be and in the process, include the communities of color in the regenerated, revitalized America. Imagine what we could accomplish as the constitutional republic our founding fathers laid down for us over 200 years ago if we didn't have all this racial dis-unity, instead focusing on making all peoples educated, integrated and working together to contribute to an even better US.
Most people that voted for Obama were blinded by an idea, a hope, and the promise of change... and they thought it would come from a black man. whose black peoples that same constitution and government have so long relegated to second class citizenship. Did you really believe that Obama would have respect for a system of government which has so long held black folk in chains?
I hear so often people asking why is Obama doing this, the question I throw back is, given what the black community has been thru the last 200 years why wouldn't he do this? Our white way of life and white constitution and white government have not been kind to the black man. Is it any wonder then that he would want to tear down those bastions of white life?
I don't really know how to end this entry, because there is a part of me that wants desparately to give advice to Obama, to say you have a chance to be the unifer of races in America. To lift everyone in this country up. Then there is the part of me that looks at his history... the Alinsky trained community organiser, the radical black theology, the marxist views espoused in college, then as a lawyer and statesman... and thinks we failed as a society to show him that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is for everyone, no matter their race.
So there you have it Mr. Obama, this is the time. You have an unprecedented opportunity to get America back on her feet, to usher in a bright era of racial reconciliation. I do hope your willing to shrug off the money and the 'interests' and do the right thing for all of America... in all its diversity. The alternative is too terrible to imagine for most, but I'm certain it will not fare well for minorities if you do fail.
