Our forefathers warned us of such a time to come, at the close of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on September 18, 1787, a Mrs. Powel anxiously awaited the results, and as Benjamin Franklin emerged from the long task now finished, asked him directly: "Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" "A republic if you can keep it", responded Franklin.
When was the last time you did a study on socialism? I mean really take a look at those countries that had/have a strong socialist party or just plain embrace the ideology. One common denominator was that those socialists all called themselves 'progressive'. They thought of themselves as always on the 'move' forward. They also understood that people will respond to progressive, moving rhetoric. Here in the US we are confronted with a form of socialism precipitated by the election of Mr. Obama to the presidency, with the express goal of taking from us the very Republic system of government and civil management that made us the only world superpower.
It should come as no surprise then that Dear Leader Obama wants to socialize our medical insurance system. Under such auspices as reducing costs, fighting fraud, and managing waste. Our current system while not perfect is the envy of countries all over the world. I'm sure you won't believe that statement but I can back it up by pointing to a couple countries to begin with. Let's start with Canada, who while not having a socialized medical structure does have a socialized insurance coverage setup. This has impacted their economy while also affecting the quantity and the quality of healthcare in a devastating way.
Now lets look to Obama's comrades in mother Russia. The Rand Corporation did a very comprehensive study of the Russian state run healthcare system. Its kinda bleak and not getting better. As we begin to look at this system of healthcare for our own country perhaps we should take under advisement The Crisis of Russian Health Care and their Attempts at Reform. One can only feel pity for the russian people who are suffering under the boot of oppressive despotism, but then they have to suffer the further insult of graft, corruption and staffing shortages that have befallen their socialized medical system. Grigory Pasko has posted some dystopic tales of his experiences in Russia's healthcare system, and as we know from the medical blackmail of Vasily Alexanyan, the government has some serious problems to address in this policy area. Alex Rodriguez of the Chicago Tribune has a good report on the topic.
Any real discussion of socialized medicine with out considering the mother of all socialist states, China, would be deficient. China has had 60 years to get socialized medicine done right, and yet it was only in 2009 that they had to admit its not doable, but ever the optimist's they enacted a $124 billion health care reform plan (Xinhua).
Is this the road we really want to travel?
We should be very leary of what Obama and other congressional leaders propose in the way of healthcare reform, given that the healthcare industry is deep in the pockets of these elected public officials.
Back in 2008 the presidential candidates raised $5 million for their federal campaign efforts over their lifetime in politics from the health care sector, including donations from individuals and PACs related to nursing homes and hospitals, pharmaceuticals and health products, HMOs and health services, and other miscellaneous health businesses. But with the health care crisis facing America, should they be taking any money from this industry at all? Read the full report, "Their Money or Our Health" (pdf).
So just who are the recipients of this healthcare industry largese? The top recipients of healthcare money include:
- Sen. Hillary Clinton ( D-NY ): $1,510,862
- Sen. Chris Dodd ( D-CT ): $781, 267
- Sen. John McCain ( R-AZ ): $588,788
- Sen. Barack Obama ( D-IL ): $492,885
- Gov. Mitt Romney ( R-MA ): $413, 335
Imagine that... and that's nothing! Consider that between the years 1998 and 2009, Hospitals/Nursing Homes gave our congresspersons and president $720,646,536; while Health Professionals gave them $653,230,168; Insurance companies doled out a mere $1,220,365,114 and Pharmaceuticals/Health Products companies dropped more than $1,620,254,958 into our upstanding congresspersons pockets. Goodness gracious. That's something there.
I'm sure all that congressional pocket stuffing wouldn't affect my elected representatives votes in congress on matters that affect my wellbeing, financial bearing or healthcare. It might however explain ActaNonVerba's two articles about Mercury in vaccines: why our government continues to allow the Pharmaceutical industry to injure us with Mercury laden vaccines and how The Centers for Disease Control's quest for greater vaccine profits thru Thimerosal; and how this correlated directly to those companies bottom line profits being boosted by government inaction and congressional vote. Of course, we also shouldn't notice how Dear Leader Obama and the US CONgress couldn't wait to bail out their buddies in banking industry after those same buddies lined their pockets in gold.
Given all of the above, are you sure you want to have big Obama government involved in your healthcare? If so, it will certainly give new meaning to, "God help us". While your at it, give the Death, taxes & Obamacare: Poster contest, Round Two a go over on Michelle Malkin's blog.
