So Maybe We Should Decline To Check Your House For Possible Break-in Next Time Mr. Gates?
Henry Gates, You ungrateful pompous snob-a-cademic. Those officers responded to a possible break-in at your residence, arriving to apprehend if needed anyone who might have been stealing your personal treasures or perpetrating a crime upon your person, and yes they might have had to put their lives on the line if a real thief was there and turned violent.
The fact that you didn't thank them for coming to check on your property and make sure it was safe really makes a statement about were blacks mentally are with regard to race relations with white folk. It's very much like racism only reversed, and I don't even want to hear that such doesn't exist, because I've seen it and heard it pretty much non stop from every black person I know for the last 10 years. Whitey doing this, Whitey doing that, The White boss didn't promote me, The white boss didn't give me a raise... the white man... on and on it goes.
Instead the first words out of your mouth were about how black men are treated in america and don't mess with me. It was not long ago that police probably would have taken hours to arrive, if at all, to a black man's home when called for a break-in or other criminal circumstances.
And yet it was us terrible whitey's that came up with Equal Opportunity for blacks so that job discrimination became a thing of the past, we also legislated Special funding and grants for education of blacks using our tax monies so that arrogant hypocrits like you could bath in the honorific light of academia, we also went after hate groups like the KKK and skinheads so that your homes were not burned to the ground in the middle of the night, i think you get my point... all to give blacks a better life here in America.
I would say Mr. Gates you take for granted your special status as a priviledged minority here. You seem to forget that you sir are no better than your neighbors, who by the way were watching out for you well-being, or anyone else in society. You would do well to study not just the angry black written books which talk about slavery and persecution of the black race in America by our white ancestors, you should actually come on out and meet some of us white folk. We are not your enemy and believe it or not we care about our neighbors no matter what the color of their skin. That is if you can get over things that happened in the past and move on to the better future that American offers for everyone willing to strive for it...
Are you so angry at the white man who has given you so much that you cannot apologize to them for treating them with less respect than you expect for yourself or to give them a simple thanks for coming to protect your property and person? If your actions that day are any indication then we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. If I were an officer there and you declined to apologize after acting that way toward me after I put my life on the line for you, you would be hard pressed to get me to respond to any further cries for help from your address.
I do hope you will be the leader we expect and help to heal the racial divide instead of bringing drama to the table. Because for you to choose any other path forward without wisdom, forgiveness and reconciliation, then that means that none of us can win. And that sir is the legacy of all racism.
